Selecting an Enclosure for Your Parrot

If you are considering having a parrot at home, one of your first consideration should be deciding on a place where it is going to stay. Remember that where the parrot resides contributes a lot towards its health. It is normal that every parrot owner will prefer keeping the parrot in a cage. But make sure that the cage is roomy enough because the parrot needs a lot of living space if it needs to grow well.

If you opt for a cage, you should always concentrate on having the correct dimension. It should be noted here that not every type of parrot may be kept in one and the same cage. The type of cage you have will also depend on the specie of parrot that you have. It should be stressed here that it is a necessity that you must study about the specie of parrot you have ahead of deciding the type of enclosure that the parrot will be kept in.

There are so many types of cages and with varying sizes that you can think of. All these will depend on the specie of parrot that you have. For example, having specie of parrot such as either the Blue Crown Conure or an African Grey Parrot would mean that you should go in for a cage size of 18 x 18 x 18 inches. If you have the Senegal Parrot and Eclectus Parrot, the same measurement above would still be appropriate.

The measurement of the cage may also go bigger with other specie of parrots. For example, a measurement of about 30 x 30 x 30 inches is very ok if you have the Macaws, the Amazon Parrot or Quaker Parrot. With regards to the Umbrella Cockatoos, a measurement of 36 x 30 x 72 inches would be suitable. An enclosure for a Conure may be less but about 20 x 20 x 24 inches if you want your parrot to stay relaxed and cheerful.

There are so many other types of parrots and they will also have different types of and sizes of cages. A living space with a measurement of about 48 x 36 x 48 should be thought of if you opt to have the Goffin Cockatoo for a pet. This will also apply if you opt to have the Moluccan Cockatoo. As for a Rose Breasted Cockatoo, you should always consider a cage measurement of about 36 x 36 x 36 inches. Parrots which are tiny in nature may live in smaller cages of about 18 x 22 x 24 inches. An example of this is the Quaker Parakeet. For other smaller species such as Budgies and Cockatiels, cage measurements of about 20 x 12 x 18 and 18 x 18 x 24 inches respectively will be suitable. Make sure that the entrance into the cage is big enough so as not to stress the parrot when entering into the cage.

Apart from cage measurements, what are also important are the devices that will be used in feeding your parrot. Remember that you must include things like cups to contain water and even toys and the parrot should be able to get to these from inside the cage.
