How to Keep the Claws and Beaks of Parrots Neat

Besides having your parrot take a bath at least once in seven days, it is also important to keep the claws and beaks of your parrot neat. Remember that you must make sure that they are not very prickly. This is to ensure that they should not destroy your furniture and other things found in your home.

If you want to keep their claws neat, you can do this by using concrete or sand perches. This will only make the claws and beaks to remain blunted. It will never stop them from growing. You must ensure that the claws do not develop constantly.

Ahead of keeping their nails short, you should know that this is not a task you will do alone. You will definitely need the assistance of someone who will hold the parrot while you take care of the trimming. If you are not sure of the procedure to take, you should always consult a vet to do the job for you. Through the process, you will become skilled enough to personally trim the nails whenever there is a need to do so. Remember that parrots are very sensitive and moody animals. You should never trim their nails when they are moody. Wait until you realise that they are full of life before you do the trimming.

When you are through with the trimming, you can place your parrot on a level place. If the toes are not raised by the nails, then the trimming was perfect.

Three easy guidelines exist for you to follow when you embark of keeping the nails of your parrot clean. Begin by providing some styptic powder to take care of any injury such as blood loss while trimming the nails. Continue by clenching the parrot firmly with a piece of cloth or a towel. This will help to keep the parrot in a stable condition when you set to work. When you start the trimming process, it should be done very swiftly but cautiously. Finally, make sure you fondle the parrot while doing the trimming. Remember that with you around and making the parrot feel at home, it will not be agitated.

Trimming the claws seems to be an easy thing to do. When you are through with the claws, you should progress to the beak. This is if the beak is going to need some trimming. Just in the same way as trimming the claws was done, always consult a vet to do the job for you. Remember that if you are not very skilled to do this, you can cause your parrot considerable injury. Why must you be very careful when trimming the beak? This is simply because there are certain nerves around the region of the beak which should not be tampered with. This may sometimes irritate the parrot and it may equally injure you.

Trimming the beak is essential because overgrown beaks means the health of the parrot is not ok. This should also be done when the parrot is tender so that it becomes accustomed to it when it grows old.
