What Is behind That Parrot’s Gift in Talking?
If a lot has to be known behind the reason why parrots can mimic people, this will owe much to the research of Irene Pepperberg. Her research was carried out using two parrots of the African Gray family. These two parrots were called Alex and N'kisi.
What Is So Particular About This Research?
This research was very instrumental in that it led people to become more inquisitive on the way parrots behave and act. Alex was shown a lot of objects and was instructed to call these objects after a repetition of the names to it. It was also instructed on identify certain objects and numbers and some particular questions were posed to it. It was clever enough to recognise most of the object and could identify them through their names. It could also count and identify colours. In fact, it has an excellent grading with getting about eighty percent of all the questions right. On the other hand, N'kisi could also identify and pronounce more than a thousand words and could also make use of the properly.
How Do Parrots Produce Sounds?
Parrots have no voice tones, but they can speak. They do this by giving of sounds through forcing air out from one corner to the other within their mouth this is principally done through their trachea. The size and dimension of the trachea is alternated and this in turn produces the various sounds that you hear from these parrots. Remember that they are very clever enough to replicate this even to the extent of using this to imitate humans.
What about the Noise That Parrots Produce?
One thing inherent in parrots is that they are very noisy. In fact, they can produce noises that will be sickening to your ears. Therefore, you must always be prepared to stomach some of these attitudes of the parrot.
On the other hand, it is know that not every parrot will be inclined to making such noises. There are some species of parrots which are noisier than others. Examples of very noisy parrots are Quaker Parakeets and Conures. These often make unbearable sounds. That notwithstanding, these are very clever species of parrots and it is easy to teach them how to talk properly.
Other species such as the Cockatoo, the Macaw, Amazon and the African Grey are also very clever and can be taught on how to speak. These are birds which are very clever and can even take note of sounds that you may not want them to become used to. Make sure you teach them properly and avoid situations in which that might upset the nerves of people.
What is also particular about the noise that parrots make is that they sometimes do this out of their own volition. In most cases, they do this to signal to you that they are not comfortable with the way you are taking care of them. Some of them will also behave just the same way they see you do. Therefore, if you act irrationally, then your parrot will also copy that from you.
Most of the parrot’s talking abilities will only be useful it is used for entertainment. This will however be possible when the parrot is being fondled by the right person.
