Knowing the Essentials Can Ease the Teaching Process of Your Parrot to Speak

A lot of people keep parrots because they want these parrots to speak. They will prefer their parrots to speak at all cost and may sometimes pay for the services of experts to teach their parrots how to speak. In most cases, you must not pay for the services of these experts. The essential is to know what has to be done. And of course, this will call for a lot of creativity and some endurance.

What was normally done in ancient times is that parrots were easily taught how to speak by first of all making them used to the various words that you wanted to teach them. This was very necessary even if they could not understand the meaning of these words. This was commonly done around AD 1250 in Persia as was reported by Rumi.

The procedure for doing this involved the use of a mirror in which was positioned in front of the parrot. Whoever was teaching the parrot would position himself at the back of the parrot and repeat the words. The parrot would think of it as someone speaking to it from the mirror and would tend to try to speak like the person in the mirror.

Most of the training in ancient times was effective if you began training the parrot at a very tender age. The same still holds for those wishing to teach their parrots how to speak. But ahead of doing so, make sure that you have created a strong relationship between you and your parrot. It is important that both of you should get to know each other better ahead of beginning the teaching process. Keep in mind that your parrot must build confidence in you before it can learn on some of the things you intend to teach it.

Device some planned lessons for your parrot. Think of some lessons on articulations and teach your parrot on a daily basis. You can teach your parrot for up to ten minutes everyday. When teaching your parrot, make sure that it is at ease. Begin with some of the simplest things or things that you would normally say everyday such as morning or daily greetings. What you teach the parrot should be done again and again until your parrot catches it. Whatever you teach your parrot at this early age should be very easy things.

When you realise that your parrot is making some positive progress in the learning process, offer it some commendations. You can offer it something to eat. Parrots are very clever like humans and they will show some positive signs when you commend them for the efforts that make.

You can also bring in some teaching aids such as tapes. Remember that using sounds to teach your parrot is just the best means you can resort to. However, this will not be very appropriate or effective in teaching your parrot some of the things that can commonly be said at home.

If you know what to do when teaching the parrot, it can be full of excitement. But never open them to things that you will not like them to learn.
