Carrying Your Parrot As You Move
There are lots of parrots owners who will prefer to move around with their parrots when they feel it is necessary to do so. Keep in mind that you may have a very busy schedule and you may not want to your busy program to divert your attention away from your parrot. If you move a lot, you should start by making sure that your port of destination will be secure for the safety of your parrot. Remember that you may come into contact with other pets that may either be a threat to the security of your parrot or the other way round.
You will also want to make sure that your destination has the required medical attention to offer to your parrot in case something is wrong with your parrot. These are all meant to ensure that safety of your parrot when you move with it.
If you are going to sleep in a hotel, you should first of all make sure that the hotel or inn is in accordance with you bringing in parrots into its premises. If this is accepted, you should also inquire about the types of chemicals used in cleaning the rooms. Remember that chemicals will not be good to the health of your parrot. Alternatively, you can also ask that your room should not be cleaned at all if chemicals must be used. Only the basics such as making up the bed can be done.
The problem with travelling with your parrot does not even depend on the above. Your main concern should be the safety of your parrot when in transit either to or from your home. Make sure that your parrot is securely kept in a cage. You can carry your parrot along if you travel by air. But check on the conditions to travel with your parrot and make sure that you have satisfied every condition. Certain expenses may be incurred from travelling with your pet. Make sure you know about this and that you have paid what is required.
One thing you should take note of about flights is that you should avoid flights that will stop on a number of occasions. Remember that this will create constant worry on your parrot and this may affect its health. If you are getting into another country, make sure you find out about any documentation that should be provided for travelling with your pet. Also make sure that you have affixed your identity on the cage of the parrot in case it gets misplaced.
If you will be using the road to travel, make sure that you have driven your car two or more times with your parrot. This is to find out if the parrot will find it convenient travelling by road. Make sure there is nothing in the cage that may injure the parrot if there is any quick stop. The cage should be fixed firmly to one corner of the car and should have a cloth below to take care of the mess of the parrot.
Some stops are necessary to check on the parrot and to refresh it. Your car should also be adequately ventilated so that you do not suffocate the parrot. If you have to free the parrot upon arrival, close the door and windows so that your parrot does not run away.
