The Senegal Parrots
Every bird lover and every person aspiring to enter into the trading or birds would concur with me that there is just no other type of parrot as beautiful and as animating like the Senegal parrots.
This may be thought of as an understatement. But if you take a very careful look at the Poicephalus specie of birds, you will realise that the Senegal parrots which owe their origin from this specie, are not only very much admired because of their outward beauty, but because of their talents to become welcoming with just anybody. In most cases, a greater majority of the other types of parrots would prove to be hostile to people, but this specie of parrots are very temperate to deal with. This is particular when their masters are with them. Keep in mind that this quality of theirs projects them to be one of the best types of parrots when it comes to taking care of parrots.
If you have kids at home and think of keeping a parrot as pet, you should give a first consideration to this type of parrot. Keep in mind that they will very well meet the needs of your kids. This will particularly be related to their abilities to speak more than you would normally expect and their cheerfulness in keeping your kids amused.
What you should know is that the outward appearance of the Senegal parrot should not be taken to give a conclusive thought on the whole personality of this specie of parrot. Remember that while they seem to be the least active, they are best to cooperate with people around them. Keep in mind that when they are well taken care of and when they are properly trained, they would replicate this to your kids and even those around them.
Knowing Them Better
The best way in which this specie of parrot can be known is that it has one of the best domesticated personalities when put side by side other species of parrots. They would not require most of your time and efforts like other types of parrots. Remember that you just need to offer them what they require. This therefore means that ahead of conceiving the idea that this type of parrot should be part and parcel of your home, you must become skilled at their way of living and particularly on everything that is related to what keeps them going on in life. Keep in mind that it would be impossible for you to teach them what you do not know or what they may not want.
Although they owe their origins to Africa and particularly around Senegal, it is common to see them in bird shops around Europe and the United States. They can further be broken down into three distinct species which can be evident by the colour of their abdomens. The various species include the real senegalus (yellow stomacks), the versteri specie (red stomach) and the mesotypus (orange stomach). All of these species of found in the central and north of Africa.
Living in the forest and even on vegetations, they are best known to live on seeds and the shoots of most types of edible fruits. But you should make sure that you give them a blend of this alongside some vegetables, vitamins, nutritional complements and even some industrially prepared food. Where they should be kept should be very comfortable for sleeping as well as for playing.
